Student mental health challenges have risen nationally, with young people reporting unprecedented levels of anxiety, loneliness, and a loss of meaning and purpose. Jesuit institutions are uniquely positioned to respond through the strength of their transformative mission and cura personalis (care for the whole person). Through embedding holistic wellness across campus, we can build health promoting environments that not only reduce distress but foster belonging, resilience, and lifelong flourishing.

Speaker Bio
Luis de Zengotita serves as Marquette’s first chief wellness officer. In this role, he leads the development of a holistic, sustainable, multidisciplinary strategy for student health and well-being, embedding these principles into the facets of the Marquette student experience. He also partners with Human Resources on faculty and staff wellness programming.
Prior to Marquette, he served at the University of St. Thomas beginning in 2019. There, he helped establish the university’s Center for Well-Being (CWB) in March 2020, navigated the center through the challenges of the pandemic, and responded to students’ evolving needs with innovative services and programming
Mr. De Zengotita holds dual master’s degrees in social work and business administration from Boston College.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, leadership from each of the four Jesuit schools in Milwaukee shared how their schools form men and women for others while having a significant and positive impact on the city of Milwaukee. The panel featured Fr. Michael Marco, SJ, President, Marquette University High School, Ms. Vanessa Solis, President, Nativity Jesuit Academy, Mr. Andrew Stith, President, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, and Dr. Kimo Ah Yun, President, Marquette University.

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, JFAN Milwaukee hosted Celtic Notes & Anecdotes: A Night with Fr. Ryan Duns, SJ, and Friends. In preparation for St. Patrick’s Day, the Associate Professor of Theology at Marquette University shared his special gifts for storytelling and Irish music, playing the tin whistle and piano accordion at the Networking Reception.
