Finding God in All Things
(...sometimes through the eyes of others)

May 15, 2024

Featured Speaker:
Tom Szczepanski
Executive Officer of Angel’s Place

University of Detroit Mercy
Student Union Ballroom

4001 W. McNichols Road
Detroit, Michigan 48221

Born in a small house on the east-side of Detroit and educated at the University of Detroit Mercy, Tom has gone on to have what he describes as a Forest Gump-like life – meeting interesting people and living a life of surprising experiences. And yet, it wasn’t until he started working at Angels’ Place, with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, that he started to find God in those things. Sometimes it takes the eyes of others to open your own.

Tom will share the gift of spirituality he’s found in working for and with the members of the twenty-one Angels’ Place homes in Southeast Michigan, and the powerful awareness of God acting in our lives.

Program Details:

Speaker Bio:

For over twenty-five years, Tom Szczepanski has worked in executive-level positions — first in corporate roles, now with nonprofit organizations.

He has been a leader with some of the world's most respected companies -- marketing firms like JWT, BBDO and Doner; brands such as Jeep, Kohl's, 7-Eleven, Dodge, and The Detroit Free Press. He's brought that entrepreneurial approach to nonprofits like the March of Dimes, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, the University of Michigan, PBS Detroit, the Jesuit Friends and Alumni Network, and Angels' Place.

Today, he is the Chief Executive Officer of Angels’ Place.  For over thirty years, Angels’ Place has provided homes and services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Thanks to donor support and the grace of God, they serve nearly 100 residents in twenty-one homes in the Detroit tri-county area.

Tom and his wife Carolyn (Dettloff) met as students at the University of Detroit Mercy (’74) and have been married for 37 years.  Together they have two adult daughters, two sons-in-law, and a grandchild on the way.
